Sunday Get-Acquainted Dinner
Wisconsin Agents are your hosts for this great tradition. They look forward to serving you the brauts for which their state is famous. Michigan appreciates that every state in the North Central Region will be involved in hosting meals or snacks for you. We are working to ensure that you don’t need to spend much on food once you arrive in Grand Rapids!

Sunday Opening Session/Inspirational Program
The 2007 Opening Session/Inspirational Program sets the stage for the NACAA conference. Michigan has planned an evening for July 15 that will get everyone in gear for a fun, entertaining and educational event.

Jay Laffoon, a speaker from Alma, Mich., will kick things off with a combination of power-packed delivery and laugh-out-loud humor. Through Biblical insights and real-life illustrations, Laffoon motivates and inspires his audiences to action.

Jay and his wife Laura founded one of the fastest-growing marriage conferences in the country, hosting more than 1000 couples annually at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. They help couples put basic principles into practice that help them celebrate marriage every day.

Musical accompaniment will come from Three Men and a Tenor, who will perform a mix of patriotic and religious songs. The four MSU alumni have entertained around the world and were recently recognized as the “2006 Best Entertainment in Michigan”. They recently completed a tour of U.S. military bases in Germany, using their humor and talent to brighten the lives of those serving our country.

In a brilliant annual tradition, a color guard will enter the Devos Performance Hall and the president of each state association will present that state’s flag.
This evening is sponsored by the DTE Energy Foundation.

Monday Keynote Speaker
The general session on Monday, July 16, 2007 will feature Dr. Richard Foster, vice president for programs at the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. As a leader at the Kellogg Foundation, he is spearheading the foundation’s effort to help land-grant universities become more closely linked to common people and consumers. Foster strongly believes that agriculture can be the stimulus for rural economic development He has called rural communities “a national treasure” and has said that, “Probably the best rural resource is the people and their spirit of ingenuity.” Rick Foster provides thought-provoking insights to quality of life problems. He believes that land-grant universities have a special role in meeting the needs of rural America. We are excited to have Rick Foster as the keynote speaker for the conference. We believe that he will challenge and encourage America’s Extension Agents.

Tuesday State’s Night Out
The Grand Rapids downtown area is alive with restaurants within a short walk of the headquarters hotel. Over 30 restaurants can be found within blocks, many of which could host your State’s Night Out dinner. In addition, the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel has marvelous ballrooms or elegant smaller rooms that your state could use for that event. Michigan pledges to work with your state in order to match your needs with the many possibilities. Tuesday evening will be a great time for your state delegation to get together and share the camaraderie of families and friends.

Wednesday Bar-B-Que
Following your tour on Wednesday, you will dropped, as it were, into another land, the Frederich Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, a premier destination for the world in Grand Rapids. While you’ll want to savor a delicious bar-b-que dinner, lingering over good food and good fellowship, you’ll also be rushing to see the sights around you.
The Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park will captivate your senses with the sheer beauty of gardens, waterways and floral displays. Intertwined with the flora is the audacity of sculpture. From the 24 foot tall brass horse designed by Leonardo da Vinci to the natural beauty of a tropical rain forest under glass, you will constantly be saying to someone “look at that”!

Sons & Daughters Farewell Party
Sons and daughters of NACAA members are going to have a grand time at their Thursday evening farewell party. The party will be throughout two floors of the Van Andel Museum, a museum with an old fashioned carousel to ride and a planetarium that features mind-boggling 3-D audio-visual experiences! Eating pizza beneath the 75 foot long skeleton of a finback whale, kids will finish out a great week in Grand Rapids. They’ll enjoy time with new friends and old friends, none quite so old as a 3000 year-old mummy. Michigan is a great place to bring your sons and daughters!

CREATING POSTERS USING POWERPOINT Susan Kerr - Extension Educator, Washington State University Extension Klickitat County, Goldendale, WA 98620

Microsoft’s® PowerPoint presentation software can be used to create attractive and effective posters for various audiences. This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the basics of creating posters using PowerPoint as well as emphasize the hallmarks of good posters. Handouts will be provided for participants’ future reference. Because this workshop will be conducted in the NACAA AM/PIC computer lab, participation will be limited.

This is to be offered on Sunday afternoon, July 15 I put 1:00 4:00 on the room form, but really our thought was to provide this as an alternative for people who are not involved in committee activities would like a 3 hour block of time. Susan needs the computer lab for this session. Space is limited to the number of computers in the computer lab. The session will be cancelled if there isn’t adequate enrollment.

I’m still working on getting confirmations for our workshop time on Tuesday. Isn’t there a standard timeframe reserved for this?

I still need a description for this one, but on Wednesday, 9:00 am to noon, John Dorner will offer a session on Blogging in the computer lab. Again, enrollment limited to number of computers in the lab and the session will be cancelled if there isn’t adequate enrollment.
